Atlanta will host the potential AFC Championship game between the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs.

Should the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs play in the conference championship game, the NFL has named Atlanta as the host city for the AFC Championship game.

Prior to the cancellation of the Bills' game against the Cincinnati Bengals on January 2, the NFL owners approved the first-ever postseason plan to hold a game at a neutral venue.

After Damar Hamlin passed out and experienced a heart arrest, the game was initially called off and then postponed.

The postseason scenario was created since the Bills didn't have a fair chance to win the top seed in the AFC because they played one fewer game than the Chiefs.

Should the two teams play, the game will be played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Roger Goodell, the commissioner of the NFL, said on Thursday, "We are encouraged by the continuous improvement and development of Damar Hamlin in his rehabilitation, and Damar and his family remain top-of-mind for the entire NFL community."

In the event that the Bills or Chiefs win, we are also appreciative of Arthur Blank and the Atlanta Falcons for agreeing to host the AFC Championship Game in Atlanta. We appreciate the support of the two groups during the preparation phase.

The NFL announced on Thursday that Atlanta had been chosen as a potential host location for relocated postseason games before the start of the season.

Atlanta is "nearly equidistant from the cities of both prospective participating clubs," according to the NFL.
